Easy Changes to Improve My Golf Swing

Easy Techniques I Used to Improve My Golf Swing

Currently, one of my obsessions in life is to improve my golf swing. I understand that I will probably never be anywhere near as good as a professional golfer, but I study their style and strategies just the same. In addition, I also like to study golf statistics and I try to use that information to improve my golf swing. Occasionally it works, and sometimes it winds up being worthless trivia.

As an example, are you aware that the majority of the finest scratch golfers worldwide miss an average of six greens in any given round? That is one in 3, perhaps it’s just me, but that number doesn’t sound that great to me. And as I ponder that statistic, maybe it will be possible for me to be a decent golfer.

As you are probably aware, to have a great golf game, you have to have a good short game. This is evidenced by the fact that all the pros have really good short games. But to do well on the green, I first need to get my ball somewhere near the pin. And in order to get my ball on the green, I need to improve my golf swing.

I’ve used a number of methods to improve my golf swing. The first thing I’d tell you is to take some lessons. It is the one thing I found to significantly improve my golf swing, and my game in general. You would probably be surprised at the number of people who believe that they can learn the game on their own, without the assistance of a good instructor. But if want to be a good golfer and really improve your game, you absolutely need a good instructor to show you the fundamentals.

Many folks informed me that I could improve my golf swing by employing correct swing mechanics and overcoming golf swing inertia. But, because I was so new to the game, I had no clue what they meant. The key to a good golf game is to find an easy technique that works for you and practice, practice, practice.

I was also able to improve my golf swing by videotaping my swing and then playing it back in slow motion. This was very painful to watch at first, but it isolated many of my problem areas pretty quickly. You can also upload the video to the internet and post it on some of the large golf forums to get specific advice from more experienced players.

If, you are reading this and thinking, I want to improve my golf swing, there are really only 3 basic rules: Practice – Practice – Practice.

After contacting a local pro and getting some lessons under your belt,, and with some practice, I was able to improve my golf swing and take 7 strokes off my golf scores in less in less than seven days. Want to know how? Visit Improve My Golf Swing

How to Improve Your Golf Swing – 4 Secret Tips The Pros Don’t Want You To Know!

Want to know how to improve your golf swing? Golf is rapidly increasing in popularity these days. It’s a global trend. Golf instructors, golfing schools, golf advice, even self-help instructional golf materials flood the media, promising to not only improve your golf swing, but to do it almost overnight.

No matter where you turn, it seems like there is always somebody ready to help you to improve your golf swing. But before you start accepting any of this help, you need to think about a few things first.

Like any other sport, the best way to improve at golf is repetitive practice using the proper form. The tricky part is figuring out exactly what the proper form is, and how one goes about acquiring it. The sad truth about this industry is that there are a lot of pseudo-experts and unproven techniques out there. If you apply the wrong advice, you could end up with a worse swing than you had in the beginning.

But isn’t that what golf instructors are for? Don’t they help you improve your golf swing, correct your mistakes and set you on the right path? Bad habbits are hard to break, so it is really important not to develop new ones. If you take bad advice, it only hampers your progress as you will have to unlearn these bad habits before you can start learning the good ones. What is worse, some “training” tips may cause injuries which can hurt your golf swing permanently.

There is no hard and fast way to identify bad advice, but certain things should ring alarm bells. Good advice works for lots of people, so ask around. Try to contact other players who have either been taught by the same instructor or have benefited from the proposed technique. That way you’ll increase the chance that you’ll improve your golf swing as well.

Look at the credentials of the instructor, if he has a good golf swing, and plays a good game that’s ok, but it is also important to see if he has any formal education. People who have no sports medicine background may be recommending potentially harmful drills without them realizing it. Well meaning individuals have caused great harm before.

Goal setting is a key component of any training exercise, so what is the goal of this activity? It should not be as nebulous as: ‘you will improve your golf swing’ or ‘you will have better form’. Measurable goals are important, such as average distance traveled by the golf ball, increased accuracy of shot trajectory, or increased golf ball speed.

Some of the problems you encounter may be related to your golf equipment. It pays to make sure that you are using the correct club length for your height, good fitting shoes, and appropriate clothing. You must also practice in a setting which hampers your movements. If you are in an area that is too crowded, this may prevent you from fully realizing your golf swing.

Finally, find instructors and training tips that fit your personality. Golf like any other game involves a lot of psychology, so your mental game must be improved as well. Try to figure out what kind of personality you are and what mental traits you need to develop in order to improve your golf swing. This is often the major stumbling block for athletes, be they professional or amateur, so do not feel weird about it.

In the end you will not only get a better golf swing and game, you may even get a better you.

Just a quick bonus tip: I’ve stumbled upon an AWESOME piece of golf training equipment, that really helped me alot – call it a shortcut, but definitely be sure to read this Medicus Driver review – it WILL help you improve your golf swing – and you CAN easily tell the difference within a few days.

9 Ways to Improve Your Golf Swing and Bring Down That Handicap

Every golfer, whether high or low handicapper, wants to better his game and the secret to improvement lies in the golf swing. We are all individuals and as such we come in all shapes and sizes. However to achieve that perfect golf swing, and send the golf ball soaring away into the distance, we have to harness our individual physical peculiarities and ensure that at the moment of impact the club head travels through the drive line and impacts the golf ball square on. Here are nine ways that your golf swing can be fine-tuned to help Bring Down that Handicap.

*    Before starting the golf swing the first basic essential is to keep your head still and look straight down at the golf ball. Many things are written and taught about the position of address relative to the ball but the position of the head is of prime importance. It should be perpendicular to your spine with your head raised slightly so that the left shoulder fits under the chin when you start the backswing. You will be unable to perform a proper golf swing with your chin tucked into your chest.

Practice addressing the golf ball, with your feet correctly positioned, your back straight and your head slightly raised whilst still looking at the ball. Practice a dozen times, your backswing and downswing without hitting the ball or following through, whilst keeping the head still. Take a rest, relax, and then repeat the exercise. Repetitive training will condition your body to automatically assume the correct posture each time you prepare to start your golf swing.

*    Relaxation is another important aid to perfecting your golf swing. Relaxation is not easy when you are striving to power the golf ball down the fairway. If however, you relax your muscles when addressing the ball, your golf swing will be that much smoother and consequently contact with the golf ball will be that much sweeter.

*    However good an address set up you have it is still important to understand the affect of hitting the golf ball with your chosen club. There are 4 main factors affecting your golf swing and knowing how to combine these to produce a good swing is essential.

The first factor is the angle at which the clubface impacts the ball. A square on hit will propel the golf ball, without spin, straight down the fairway. Anything off of square will put spin on the ball and cause it to hook or slice.

*    Secondly the vertical angle of the club head to the ball will affect the flight path height. Anything other than 90 degrees to the horizontal will cause the golf ball to fly high or stay low; either way the result will be loss of distance.

*    Every golf club has a so called sweet spot. This is the optimum point on the club head that gives driving accuracy and distance. The size of the sweet spot varies with different golf club manufacturers and obviously the larger the sweet spot the easier it is to strike the golf ball well. The main point here however is to ensure that at address you align the ball with the centre of the sweet spot.

*    The next important factor is the speed of your golf swing as the club impacts the ball. Speed equals power but this is not dependent solely on body strength. Flexibility, timing and movement of the upper body through the downswing play a great part in successfully striking the golf ball. Do not depend on shoulders and arms alone; accuracy and distance do not come this way.

*    Following on from the last point it becomes apparent that to gain flexibility in your golf swing it is necessary to have more control over your body and a simple exercise regime should be followed to gain this control. The more control you have over your muscles allows you more relaxation and confidence during the golf swing which in turn leads to more control over your mind. We all know that golf is very much a game played in the mind.

Simple golf specific weight training will enable you to strengthen your muscles and improve functional strength and automatically gain more control and balance. We are not talking here about becoming the next Arnie Schwarzenegger; just a tone up to improve your general wellbeing which in turn will greatly assist your golf.

*    If you are able to follow some simple golf specific weight training the main benefit will be found in your golf swing drill when addressing the golf ball.

To execute a good golf swing drill you start by swinging the golf club right back as far as your body allows. Obviously the older you are, the less flexible you become and you will not be able to achieve the back swing of your youth.

Having achieved your maximum back swing the drill moves to the down swing. Start this by transferring your weight easily from the back to the front foot as you swing the club with your hips, upper legs and then knees all moving forward.

The ideal golf swing is completed with the body weight on the outside of the front heel and the front of the rear foot.

If you carry out simple golf specific weight training as outlined in the previous tip your body will be better prepared to complete the perfect golf swing drill.

*    You hear a lot about club speed and how important it is in achieving those long drives. Many of us are guilty of trying to hit the cover off of the golf ball. We get a great feeling of satisfaction when we make, what at first may seem to be a tremendous strike. Then seconds later we look up in dismay to see the golf ball veering sharply left or right.

The solution to this is to relax. Hold yourself back a little. Swing nice and easily. It is ok for the top professionals to go all out, but they are just that. Professionals! They practice for many hours a day and are also far more talented than we mortals.

Golf Secret – Golf Tips Stance

One of the most important things that one has to be able to do properly when playing golf is the proper golf stance. A good golf swing stance will be able to provide you with stability and good reference points when swinging your club which would result in having longer and straighter ball placement. Here are a few golf stance tips that you might be able to use in your next game and could probably improve your scores.

1. Feet Placement. One of the golf stance tips that are often being repeated over and over again by a lot of golf trainers is to place your feet at the same width as your shoulders. More often than not, most golfers tend to stand with their feet wider apart. Perhaps they were equating the wider feet placement to the stability of a pyramid.

However, the perfect balance in your stance would only happen when your feet are below the pivot point of your swing, in this case, your hip joints.

2. Spine angle. Another golf stance tip that would make your swing better is to make your spine angle fairly straight and tilted around fifteen degrees to the ground.  This will enable you to take full advantage of all of your golf swing muscles which you would not able to accomplish if you are slumping or leaning more than fifteen degrees forward.

3. Pre Shot Routine.  Although playing golf could be a little physical, it is also important to put your mind in the game too. Almost all professional golf players start their stance with a routine. They will first practice and visualize how they will grip and swing their clubs as well as the setup, swing, and flight of the golf ball even before the will hit it.

These are just a few golf stance tips that will surely help you the next time you take your clubs in the golf course.

Finding Wholesale Golf Shirts – Stop Paying Retail on All Your Golfing Apparel

Today, golf is one of the most popular sports. When it’s time for finding wholesale golf apparel there are many sources available to help you. Golf is a big industry, and golf apparel can be very costly if you don’t take a minute and look over the options available to the consumer. Why go to the mall and spend top dollar, when you can go online and get the same golf shirts for sometimes half the cost.

You may be in the market for finding wholesale golf apparel like Adidas, or Izod or many of the other brands, and those name brand shirts cost big bucks. Local stores like Dicks and Sport Authority charge top dollar on top brands. Many golfers stay with a certain brand and pay the costs involved, but, why spend top dollar when there’s a way you can get the exact same shirt, same style, same item number for sometimes as much as fifty percent off the retail cost.

Your local mall or sporting goods retailer all buy their golf shirts from one of a few bulk wholesalers. In the past finding wholesale golf clothing was a closely guarded secret. The local retailers made a lot of money selling their apparel this way. But, with tough comes came tough decisions, and many of the local bulk suppliers were forced sell to the public, which can be a huge benefit to the local consumer. You can in some instances buy the golf shirts by the piece, in any size and color and in any brand, for pennies on the dollar.

Local clubs like VFW and American Legions have yearly golf outings. They buy cost effective golf shirts, Jerzees, Hanes and Gildan and in the past would buy the shirts from the local screen printer. The printer in turn printed them making huge money, but, here again they were finding wholesale golf shirts from the same source that you can now buy from. Lets say your lodge is having a few golf fundraisers, how great would it be if you went online, bought the shirts at substantial savings to the club, then getting them printed for a few bucks. The money these local clubs can save over the course of a few events is unbelievable. Save money for you family, club, school buying them online at a bulk source.

Why do You Play Golf?

>
Golf is a favourite sport for some. However some people describe golf as a “good walk spoiled”. Golf also helps a person to climb the company ladder. If you are head over heels in love with golf and it has become a part of your life, you will have a hard time imagining life without golf. But why play golf?

There are many reasons to this question. To begin answering it, playing golf is good for health. It is a healthy sport where players need to do a lot of walking. Walking and playing golf blend well with beautiful pathways and breathtaking landscapes of the golf course. Walking and swinging the golf clubs increase the heart rate. Increasing the heart rate is great to lose weight. It also helps the cardiovascular to function better. Furthermore spending time outdoors exposes one to vitamin D which is lacking in those who stay indoors.

Secondly, playing golf or just sitting at the clubhouse helps with networking. This is a great way to make new contacts or new customers. Most people today use golf as a way to communicate and expand their businesses.  Enjoying the game surrounded by greens makes meetings with prospective clients more fun.

There are many golf tournaments held for good causes such as helping cancer victims or those in need. It would be nice to participate in such events. And perhaps this could be another reason as why people play golf.

Golf also encourages quality time with family members. Family members can spend more time together thus strengthening the bonds while swinging the golf clubs.

Some may think that golf is boring as too much time is spent to complete a game. But actually golf is all about personal preference. Golf is a sport that depends on its players. Why do you play golf?

Learn How To Play Golf Via The Internet

Article by Rian Kelly

You’ve bought a new set of expensive golf clubs and you’re dead set in learning how to play the game. Before you go out on the fairway and display your new golf set you better know how to do the right strokes or you will bear the embarrassment of being laughed at by more seasoned players.

Learning how to play golf is not as easy as you think. But with the many ways you can educate yourself this process can be made a lot easier. You can easily invest in hiring a very good professional golf instructor. If you are aiming to play as well as Tiger Woods then putting your money where you can get a good education in playing golf should be worth your while.

Now you should also think that golf is a mental challenge. You also have to prepare yourself mentally for the rudiments of the game. It is not merely making the right strokes but in thinking of the right strategies on how to play the game right.

You can surf the internet for websites that offer lessons on how to play golf. You may know these by theory but at least once you get on the grass you are more or less knowledgeable in the right rules and order of play. Start with the stringent rules of golf. Know at least the difference between a match play and a stroke play. If these terms seem unfamiliar to you then download the book “Conquer the Mental Side of the Game” from the website http://www.golfswingetips.com. Enjoy Playing Golf Online

There are a few free internet based golf games that provide a challenge, are lots of fun, and can actually help with the mental part of your golf game.

Here are my top three picks rated on how near the game plays to a real round of golf and the game graphics.

Now that old man winter has set in and my favorite courses are snow covered, I like to sit back in my easy chair and tee off on a variety of fun and competitive online golf courses.

Number one by far is the World Golf Tour…www.wgt.com the graphics are the best on the internet, because they are not artwork but real images of famous courses like Bethpage Black, Pinehurst, and old St.Andrews. The games and tournaments on this site are as close as you can get to actual play. The controls for the game are easy enough to manage. I find the tee and fairway shots are quite simple; but as in real golf the hazard shots and putting are tough.

For the competitive among us the World Golf Tour has tournaments to play in for fun or money. I highly recommend this online golf experience! Beware though, it can be addictive!

Number two is a little known older java based game to be found at www.green18.com. The graphics are basic, but the play is realistic enough. The controls can be difficult to master just like trying to control your shots in real golf, which is in part what makes this game top rate. There is a driving range available on the site as well as a practice hole. One has eight realistic tournament courses to choose from. You can enter and withdraw from the tournaments at will. Try this game, and of course be warned, Green 18 is addictive. Too!

Number three is an older shockwave game found at www.nabiscoworld.com/Games. Go to the Nabisco Golf Course icon once on the site. The graphics here are nice. There are two versions, amateur and professional. The controls for the amateur version are easy to operate and one can score well. The pro version is harder, but gives one a good golf “feel” This game can be addictive also, but less than the others since there is only one golf course to play.

In my opinion all of the games can do much for the all important mental aspect of your golf game. Club and shot selection require careful thinking as in real golf, and are really identical to situations you encounter out on your favorite golf course.

So sit back, relax, go to one of the sites and tee off!

Why You Should Learn to Play Golf – Golf Master Secrets

Article by Doug Melvin

Why You Should Learn to Play Golf

If you are wondering what the benefits are to learning how to play golf, then I’m willing to bet that you fall into one of the following categories:

1. Someone has suggested golf to you as a sport you might enjoy; or,

2. You are feeling some social pressure from others, e.g., colleagues at work.

In the first case, you just have to find out whether golf would be fun for you or not. In the second case, my guess is that you feel it necessary to learn golf so you can join in on the ‘bonding’ and ‘networking’ experience, even if golf doesn’t excite you all that much.

So, if you need some ‘convincing’, then read on! There are plenty of good reasons to learn golf, and you’ll find them here.

Reason #1: Mental Focus

Golf is a game of focus and strategy. You use your mind, your senses and your ability to time and coordinate movements at every step of the game.

Golf is not a game of brute physical strength the way some other sports are. In fact, the stronger you are, the more you’ll probably have to work on containing and directing that strength when it comes time to hit the ball.

The best players are those who have learn to still their minds and visualize making that perfect swing. It may look easy from the outside, but there is actually a lot of ‘multi-tasking’ going in the mind of a golfer.

You learn to judge distances and correlate those distances with the amount of force to apply in your swing. At the same time, you must aim your swing and account for any factors that might change the direction of the ball.

Believe it or not, training yourself to focus in this way will have useful applications not just in other sport, but in other areas of your life. If nothing else, it teaches you to take a step back and calculate all of the variables standing between you and a goal.

Reason #2: Low-impact Exercise

You can actually get a great work-out by playing golf.

How?

First, consider the motion of a full-on golf swing. Even if you’re in tip-top shape, you’re probably going to feel sore in your arms, shoulders, lower back and maybe even your abdomen the day after your first round of swinging that club.

Next, consider that each hole on a given course can be separated by anywhere from 200 to over 700 yards, with varying types of terrain. Unless you rent a cart, you’re going to be walking those yards and lugging around a bag full of clubs to boot!

All that walking is a great, low-impact work-out for your entire body.

Reason #3: Respect

Golf is also a game of respect — for the rules as well as other players. Some would say that golf is the most ‘civilized’ or ‘dignified’ of sports. Even though you may want to ‘best’ your ‘competitors’, the person you’re really playing against is yourself.

There are no ‘tackles’ in golf, and there is no ‘stealing of plays’. Everyone takes his or her turn in an orderly fashion, and keeps an eye out on the location of other players at all times so as not to strike them with a club or bean them with a stray golf ball.

Reason #4: Business and networking

This is probably what many people think of when they think of golf: wealthy and/or connected individuals making sweetheart deals over 18 holes at the country club.

It’s a stereotype, but one with a lot of truth to it.

Golf was once a sport strictly of the upper-classes in Scotland and England. Even in the United States, many of the best greens were connected to exclusive country clubs that the average person couldn’t access without knowing someone on the inside.

Thankfully, in this day and age, golf is a much more inclusive and accessible past-time for the average person, as well as anyone else looking for an informal activity to share with friends, clients, partners, colleagues, etc.

You can hold relatively private conversations while playing golf, and you don’t have to change into a uniform to play, either. In fact, you can play golf in a business suit if need be, although you’ll probably want to take off your jacket!

Those are the four biggest reasons I can think of for why you should learn to play golf. If you still aren’t convinced, then rent a set of clubs and do a few practice rounds on a local course. You just might enjoy it after all, once you get the ‘swing’ of it!
